Zion National Park : best trails & tips

Explore Zion National Park

Only 45 minutes from Settlers Point, Zion National Park is one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the U.S. Towering cliffs, lush valleys, and world-famous trails draw millions each year , but with the right plan, you can experience it without the stress.

Best Trails in Zion

  • Angels Landing (5.4 miles, strenuous)
Known for its narrow ridge and chains section, this trail is not for the faint of heart. A permit is required. Views from the top are unforgettable.

  • The Narrows (distance varies, moderate–strenuous)
Hike in the Virgin River between towering slot canyon walls. Bring water shoes or rent gear in Springdale.

  • Emerald Pools (1.2–3 miles, easy–moderate)
Family-friendly and shady, with waterfalls and scenic pools.

  • Canyon Overlook Trail (1 mile, easy)
A short hike with huge rewards — perfect if you’re short on time.

Pro Tips for Visiting

  • Use the free shuttle system (spring–fall). Cars aren’t allowed in the main canyon during peak season.

  • Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and wear sun protection.

  • Arrive early — parking lots fill by mid-morning.

  • Skip weekends if possible. Weekdays are calmer.

  • Local Insider Tip: My favorite way to see Zion is by e-bike. You can skip the shuttles and cruise through the canyon at your own pace — it’s quiet, breathtaking, and gives you the freedom to stop whenever you want for photos or a snack.
